Privacy Policy — Clarinu
Last updated: 12.08.2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Clarinu ("we", "us", "the App") collects, uses, and protects your information. Clarinu is a study planning app designed primarily for high school students.
1. Who we are
Clarinu is developed by Mariusz Szyszka. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at igorszyszkabusiness@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide directly
- Account information: if you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication data via our backend provider, Supabase (or, if you sign in with Apple/Google, the identifiers those providers share with us to authenticate you).
- Study data you enter: subjects, exam dates, exam difficulty and readiness ratings, exam topics, homework titles and due dates, your study goal, and your study session history (duration, completion status, readiness feedback).
- Preferences: your selected daily study time preference, provided during onboarding.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Usage data: which features you use and how (e.g. sessions started/completed), used to power your plan and to understand how the app is used in aggregate.
- Notification settings: whether you have enabled reminders, and the time of day you chose for them. Reminders are scheduled and delivered by your device itself — Clarinu does not use push notifications and never collects a device or push token.
2.3 Guest mode
If you use Clarinu without creating an account ("guest mode"), your personal study data—including your exams, homework, sessions, goals, and preferences—is stored locally on your device only and is not sent to our servers, except for anonymous usage analytics (e.g., app feature events) which are collected independently of account status. If you later create an account, your local study data will be transferred to your new account.
2.4 What we do not collect
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, or browsing history, and we do not request access to these on your device beyond what is strictly needed for the features described above.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Generate and adjust your personalized study plan
- Show you your progress, streaks, and study history
- Send you study reminders, if you've enabled notifications
- Maintain and secure your account, and migrate guest data if you sign up
- Understand, in aggregate, how the app is used, so we can improve it (e.g. how many students complete their planned sessions)
- Comply with legal obligations, and detect and prevent misuse of the app (e.g. abuse of our systems, automated/bulk data submission)
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your study data to show you third-party advertising.
4. Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers who help us operate Clarinu, under contractual obligations to protect your data:
- Supabase — our backend provider, for authentication, database storage, and hosting of your account and study data.
- PostHog — an analytics provider we use to understand, in aggregate, how the app is used (e.g. how many students complete their planned study sessions), so we can improve Clarinu. We do not enable detailed automatic tracking of every tap or interaction; we only record specific events related to your study activity (such as completing, ending early, or missing a study session; adding an exam or homework item; completing onboarding), along with non-identifying details about that activity (e.g. subject, duration, difficulty). We do not send PostHog your email address, exam topics you've typed in, or homework content. Data is processed in PostHog's EU data region.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Clarinu, our users, or others.
5. Children's privacy and users under 18
Clarinu is designed for use primarily by high school students, who may be minors depending on their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect more information from a minor than is necessary to provide the study-planning features described in this policy, and we do not use minors' data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information in a manner inconsistent with applicable law, please contact us at igorszyszkabusiness@gmail.com so we can address it, including deleting the relevant data where required.
US / UK users: The Application is not intended for children under the age of 13.
EU / International users: If you are under the age of digital consent in your country (for example, under 16 in Poland), you may only use the Application with the consent or involvement of a parent or legal guardian.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under the required age has provided us with personal data without proper consent, please contact us at igorszyszkabusiness@gmail.com, and we will promptly delete such information.
6. Data retention
We retain your account and study data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain information for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Export your data in a portable format
- Object to or restrict certain processing
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at igorszyszkabusiness@gmail.com, or use the relevant option in Settings → Account within the app, where available.
8. Data security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), access controls that restrict your data to your own account (row-level security on our database), and secure storage of authentication credentials on your device. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International data transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, depending on where our service providers (e.g. Supabase, PostHog) host their infrastructure. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for such transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect.
